(RAHWAY) – Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo recently spoke about the critical need to tackle energy affordability in New Jersey through realistic planning and full system investment. He stressed the holistic nature of energy policy, citing that decisions made today will directly affect every household, business, and community across the Garden State.
Assemblyman DeAngelo delivered his remarks during a meeting with PSE&G Corporate Citizenship leadership at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, where he shared key insights on the legislative and policy considerations shaping New Jersey’s transition towards a more clean and affordable energy future.
Speaking in his capacity as Chair of the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, Assemblyman DeAngelo called for a balanced, practical approach grounded in an all-of-the-above strategy.
“Natural gas has to be part of the solution. Nuclear has to be part of the solution. Battery storage has to grow,” said Assemblyman DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex). “We’re only generating about two-thirds of what we use — and demand is growing. Energy efficiency matters, but it’s not enough on its own.”
As working families, seniors, small businesses, and manufacturers struggle with high energy costs, Assemblyman DeAngelo spoke about New Jersey’s dual challenges of lagging supply during a time of ever-increasing demand. He noted the need for comprehensive infrastructure investments when dealing with the complexities of the energy sector.
“Energy doesn’t just appear. Generation, transmission, and distribution all have to work together,” Assemblyman DeAngelo added. “You can’t build generation without first investing in transmission and distribution.”
Working to address energy affordability has been a top priority for Assemblyman DeAngelo and Assembly Democrats, who have focused on protecting ratepayers, ensuring resilience in our infrastructure, and leading the way for New Jersey to become a national leader in sustainable and cost-effective energy.
