Public Service & Leadership

Wayne’s work in utilities and energy policy has been a cornerstone of his leadership:

  • As Chairman of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, he has led efforts to modernize New Jersey’s energy infrastructure, improve grid reliability, and enhance emergency preparedness.

  • He has advocated for consumer protections, ensuring transparency and fairness with third-party energy providers, and safeguarding ratepayers from unfair practices.

  • He spearheaded initiatives promoting renewable energy, including one of the state’s first large solar panel projects, encouraging energy independence and innovation while creating green jobs for local workers.

  • He has consistently pushed for policies that support utility workers, ensuring fair wages, training programs, and safe working conditions for the men and women who keep New Jersey’s energy systems running.

Beyond utilities, Wayne’s legislative achievements impact every generation:

  • He secured state-level funding for Child Sex Crime Units, protecting children from predators.

  • Established the Silver Alert system for missing individuals.

  • Advocated for veteran hiring preferences in the NJ State Police and promoted civilian employment opportunities for veterans in nursing and teaching.

  • Combated unemployment insurance fraud, road-rage incidents, and auto insurance fraud.

Wayne’s leadership extends beyond the State House. As a former Hamilton Township Council member and Council President, he championed Pedophile-Free Zones, banned nepotism in local government, and required campaign contribution transparency from developers. He served on the Township’s Planning and Zoning Boards, helping protect communities from overdevelopment.

A committed labor leader, Wayne serves as President of the Mercer/Burlington Counties Building Trades, President of the NJ Mechanical and Allied Crafts Council, and Vice President of the Mercer County Central Labor Council. Beginning as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 269, he rose through the ranks to become President/Assistant Business Manager, leading initiatives that combined energy innovation, workforce development, and sustainability.

Wayne’s community involvement is extensive — from serving on boards like the Mercer County ARC, participating in cultural and civic organizations such as the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Hamilton Elks, to coaching youth sports.

He has been honored by the VFW, NJ State Police Fraternal Association, Library Association of New Jersey, and other organizations for his legislative and civic contributions. He was recognized by the Irish Echo as a Top 50 Irish Labor Leader and served as Grand Marshall of the Hamilton St. Patrick’s Day and Columbus Day Parades.

For Wayne, public service means building strong, sustainable communities — protecting children, empowering workers, supporting seniors, and ensuring reliable, fair, and forward-looking utility services for every household.

Wayne P. DeAngelo is a man deeply rooted in family and community. At the heart of his life is his wife, Toni, and their two daughters—who have shaped his values, grounded his priorities, and inspired his commitment to service. Today, as a grandfather for the first time, Wayne has gained an even deeper perspective on what it means to lead with purpose.

Family has always been his foundation. Whether gathered around the dinner table, coaching from the sidelines, or quietly helping a neighbor in need, Wayne believes that the strongest communities are built through presence, compassion, and shared responsibility.

Becoming a grandfather has reaffirmed his belief in the importance of legacy—not measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the values passed down to the next generation.

“Being a grandparent is a reminder that the greatest strength we leave behind isn’t found in what we achieve, but in the love, guidance, and example we give to those who come after us.”

In his home, his neighborhood, and his public service, Wayne lives by a simple truth: family and connection are the foundation of a strong future, and leadership begins with care for one another.

Rooted in Family, Guided by Community
