Assemblyman says budget and key energy bills strengthen affordability, reliability, and New Jersey’s economic future
(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo praised the Legislature’s passage of New Jersey’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget, final legislative approval of A4881, and the Assembly passage of A1072. Together, these bills aim to strengthen the state’s energy future through expanded generation, improved reliability, and long-term planning.
Bill A4881, known as the “Powering Opportunity, Workforce, and Energy Reliability for New Jersey Act,” seeks to strengthen energy reliability, support workforce opportunities, and help meet the state’s future energy needs. The legislation would direct the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, in collaboration with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, to establish a program to procure advanced nuclear energy facilities in the State. The bill would create a process for evaluating and approving projects that can help address growing energy demands while ensuring benefits for ratepayers and maintaining system reliability. Bill A1072 would direct the BPU to establish a distributed energy storage incentive program.
As chair of the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, Assemblyman DeAngelo has prioritized policies that help ensure New Jersey can meet growing energy demand while protecting consumers and supporting economic growth. The FY27 budget, coupled with the advancement of these energy bills, reflects a continued commitment to affordability, infrastructure investment, and a more reliable energy system.
“Delivering real results for New Jersey families is what matters,” said Assemblyman DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex). “This year’s budget strengthens our communities, supports public safety, and makes critical investments that improve affordability. With the advancement of A4881 and A1072, we’re working to secure a stronger energy future, protect ratepayers, and ensure our state has the energy needed to support economic growth and create good-paying, family-sustaining jobs.”
Assemblyman DeAngelo’s remarks come a day after Governor Mikie Sherrill signed three other energy-related bills into law. Those bills will strengthen New Jersey's energy infrastructure, improve oversight of the electric grid, and help protect ratepayers as energy needs continue to evolve.
