A resolution urging the President and Congress to restore the principle of net neutrality in federal law cleared the Assembly Science, Innovation and Technology Committee Thursday.

The resolution (AR-131) is sponsored by Assembly Democrats Joe Danielsen (D-Middlesex, Somerset) and Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex) who issued the following statements:

Assemblyman Danielsen

“Net neutrality is a principle that prohibits internet service providers from indiscriminately blocking, slowing down or speeding up the delivery of a consumer’s online content. Without it, the consumer’s ability to gain access to an affordable price is impeded.”

Assemblyman DeAngelo

“This measure is about fairness and preventing consumers from being at the mercy of internet service providers. Repealing net neutrality was a step backward in the innovative space. Restoring it will keep innovation moving forward.”

The bill is now poised for a vote by the full Assembly.
