Regarding their measure that would supplement the "Health Care Quality Act" and permit designated health care professionals to waive health insurance copayments for active duty military service members and their family members, providing that it does not contradict other laws, Assembly Democrats Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex), Raj Mukherji (D-Hudson) and Joe Danielsen (D-Middlesex, Somerset), released the following joint statement Wednesday: "Any steps that we can take to ease financial burdens for our military service members and their families are steps we need to take. Our men and women in uniform have made countless sacrifices to serve and protect our country, such as precious time away from their loved ones when deployed, missing family milestones, and risking injury and death. "While service members and their families do receive comprehensive health care coverage, there are instances when co-pays can pose a hardship when their budgets may already be stretched thin. This bill intends to provide common-sense relief and ensure that finances do not present an obstacle to receiving appropriate, timely health care." The measure bill (A-2550) passed the Assembly 76-0-0 on March 25 and cleared the Senate 35-0 on March 21. It now heads to the governor for further consideration.
