(TRENTON) - Following Thursday's 3-2 vote by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to rollback contemporary net neutrality rules, Assembly Telecommunications & Utilities Chairman Wayne P. DeAngelo (D-Mercer/Middlesex) called the ruling a disastrous decision that will impact millions of New Jersey residents and businesses: "Today, the FCC slowed the growth of small businesses and information sharing in a fast-paced world where internet speed and accessibility is critical. Rolling back net neutrality is simply unacceptable "If this action stands, the ability of small businesses to grow through e-commerce and online marketing will face a significant roadblock to their financial success. The cost of doing business will get tougher for start-ups who rely on quick and free internet access to connect with customers. The FCC's decision puts the finger on the scale against these small businesses and boosts the ability of big businesses to profit from them. "In many households, the ability for our children to access educational information online could become excessively expensive, significantly slower, or simply unobtainable. Every child and adult should have the same level of access in the 21st Century."
