A-504
Requires State to offer surplus State Police vehicles to certain volunteer fire and emergency service organizations.
Sponsored by: Assemblyman WAYNE P. DEANGELO District 14 (Mercer and Middlesex), Assemblyman STERLEY S. STANLEY District 18 (Middlesex)
STATEMENT
The bill requires the Department of the Treasury to donate surplus police vehicles to volunteer fire companies; fire police associations; first aid, ambulance, or rescue squads; and search and rescue squads.
The Department of the Treasury is required to notify eligible volunteer organizations when a surplus State Police vehicle is available. The volunteer organization may request that ownership be transferred to it. If a request is made by more than one organization, a lottery will be held and the vehicle will be donated to the winner of the lottery. The bill specifies that these vehicles are to be transferred at no cost to the volunteer organizations.
