Reynolds-Jackson, DeAngelo & Murphy on ACR-204

Assembly Democrats Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Mercer, Hunterdon), Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer, Middlesex) and Carol Murphy (D-Burlington) issued the following joint statement Monday on their bill urging New Jersey Supreme Court to promote public awareness campaign for food growers to register as placement worksites passing the full Assembly: "We're moving ahead on legislation to fight food insecurity in NJ. Local community food banks, soup kitchens, or pantries -- the organizations on the frontlines of the fight against hunger - rely on donations from gleaning. Encouraging more people to lend a hand to help local farmers with gleaning activities, after commercial harvesting is complete, is a good start to helping farmers reduce spoilage of produce. "Allowing NJ farms to be designated as a placement worksite for those who are directed to provide community service by the courts would give farmers additional support in their gleaning activities. The more food we can collect on New Jersey farms for donation, the closer we are to ensuring no family or child goes hungry."
