STATEMENT

This bill requires the Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, to establish an awards program to be known as the “County Career Technical Education Annual Recognition Awards.” The awards program will annually recognize county vocational school districts with outstanding career and technical education programs which, at a minimum:

· integrate rigorous academic and technical content to prepare students for continued education, training, and employment in high-demand career pathways that address the demands of business and industry;

· incorporate partnerships with labor, business, industry, or a college or university; and

· demonstrate quantifiable success of students who complete the program earning an industry-recognized credential, passing a technical skills assessment, or continuing their education at the postsecondary level.

Under the bill, the department will establish an application procedure and criteria and guidelines for the eligibility, nomination, and judging of applications for the awards program.
